This morning I decided to go for a bike ride. I cleaned and waxed the chain, pumped the tires up and away I went. I had music in as I spun along the waterfront, mind brimming with ideas of what I could do and see. Packed in my bag; half a bottle of water, a joint, a pack of Marlboro Golds, my kindle, my camera, my iPad and a towel to sit on.
I pedalled and pedalled away thumping with determination to
get from point a to point b. As I sped past the Wellington sign things started to slow down. I began searching for the perfect little nook to lay down my Snackachangi BBQ Flavour towel, with the tranquility that this Prima Donna now thinks he’s entitled to.
I can’t even remember what caught my eye to the spot, but I knew instantly it had my name written all over it. At first I locked my bike up the hill, separated by erosion, before deciding I’d rather keep my eyes on it.
After setting in to a nice day in the sun reading, writing, journaling, I began to feel the urge to go to the bathroom. A problem
many will be familiar with when nature calls in nature. But I began to get bothered. Bothered by what exactly?
Well it’s fucking people – a paddle boarder then goodness, a dog walker. Somewhere in between my grumpiness I managed to meditate, breathe and take my mind off needing to pee.
But that was yet just another avoidance tactic – avoiding accepting the world as it is and how it presents itself to us.
I managed to find the time to piss.
Steaming hot piss, as always with a Green Bay Packers hat on, I stumbled, dribbled and wiped my way out of trouble.
Relief at last, but my problems where long from over, a pair of rowers came to bug me – how dare they. Then a father and son – how dare they.
A moment just before the next fisherman turned up, clarity arrived first.
How cool so many of us got out there and enjoyed the moment? How amazing we are all in nature enjoying without disrupting each other?
No bad vibes around, the sun was shining and what reason does anybody have really to get upset with anybody?
In the words of Lou Reed; it’s such a perfect day, I’m glad I spent with you (specifically to those that I shared my time with on this magical day).
